"Earth Science" is a free jazz tune letting the jazz trio venture into more free-jazz territory akin to Ornette Coleman’s music. In the context of the album's song sequence, it is a contrasting breath of fresh air. It is also an opportunity for Julian Lage to step back from the frontman role and let the band go nuts.
