This is a transcription of the two leading parts, the cavaquinho and the flute, on “Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho”. This composition dates back to Ernesto Nazareth who originally composed it as a solo piano piece, emulating the typical cavaquinho chord voicings (in the left hand) and the typical style of melody of Choro music (in the right hand). The title alludes to this emulation – in English, the title would literally be: “Caught you, cavaquinho”, or more colloquially: “Gotcha, cavaquinho”. This composition has since become a standard in Choro music where it has been adopted ‘back’ onto the cavaquinho, such as this wonderful arrangement by Waldir Silva. Enjoy!
