This is a transcription of the lead guitar and the bass parts on “Night Shade”. This composition perfectly fits the album theme of “musical poems”; I think of it as a short poem with the profound spiritual vocabulary of a mantra. Compositionally, this is a slow E-minor ballad with a relatively simple chord progression, and this stands in great contrast to the highly refined changes in groove and dynamics that really shows how much great musicians can do with such a simple composition. Be sure to watch the promotional clip where Julian Lage explains how this tunes in fact goes back to the Arclight era. Enjoy!
